Applications – High Volume Fluid Management
High volume fluid management is a primary concern for a number of industries including:
- Water/waste water treatment plants
- Power generation facilities
- Food and pharmaceuticals
- Mining
- Paper manufacturing
- Chemical and petrochemical processing
- Marine
Well-designed pumps and valves are only part of the solution to managing large volumes of fluid. Compression material is required in order maintain appropriate operating pressure and prevent leakage. This compression material (called compression packing) is a soft, pliant and resilient uniquely shaped rope material, braided with various filaments or yarns, configured for inserting into an annular space, gland or stuffing box to seal a rotary, reciprocating or static mechanical device such as a pump or valve. This material has several names:
- Braided Mechanical Compression Packing (BMCP)
- Packing
- Braided packing
- Mechanical packing
- Pump gland packing
- Valve stem packing
- Rope packing
